Fantastic views of Lake Superior, the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore and more than a few magnificent waterfalls await riders bikers riding into Alger County.

I usually make the Munising Area my halfway point for my trips across the U.P.  The town of Munising sits on the Lake Superior lakeshore and is one of those little communities that people come to and never leave.

If you like waterfalls, I know of at least a half dozen waterfalls worth taking the time to visit.  Now if you're looking for a nice beach, just west of Munising is the Au Train river with an easy pull over.

Munising is a biker friendly town with warm friendly people.  If you had to pick a location to stage your rides in the Central U.P, this would be my recommendation.

 

Highway H-58 between Munising and Grand Marais will be finished in October of 2010.  When completed it will be one of the top five motorcycling roads in Upper Michigan.  This newly paved road with its sweeping curves will quickly become a road of choice in the years to come. (Top Ten Road)

Forest Highway 13 combined with Buckhorn Road make for one of the best forest rides in the Central U.P.  Plenty of twists and turns as you cruise through the deep woods. (Top Ten Road)

Highway M-28 between Munising and Marquette is a great ride along the Lake Superior Lakeshore.  Some great beach pull outs along the way with one fantastic overlook just west of Munising.

The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is one sight anyone visiting the area should see.  It's a short ride out of Munising to Miners Castle.  Pictured Rocks

U.P. Panty Run -  2009 brought the first annual U.P. Panty Run to Alger County.  The first 100 mile ride made its way up to Grand Marais with bikers collecting panties along the way.  Different yes, fun.... definitely.

Boot Fest - Several event ride through Alger County just because there is so many great sights to see along the way.  However there is one event that stands out and it happens at the Boot Lake Bar.  It's the year end celebration of Find The Pig, U.P. Annual Panty Run and the local Boot Fest festival.  Music, fun and refreshments rock well into the night.
