Lake Gogebic is the largest inland lake in
Upper Michigan and is well known for its great fishing. It's
also a major snowmobiling area with a number of interconnecting trails to
ride. While I'd known about Lake Gogebic for years, this was the
first time I actually planned to spend some real time in the area.
As we rode into Bergland, we spotted the sign for the Bergland Bay Bar so we turned on Pine Street and found the bar just a few blocks south of Highway M-28. Bergland's not that big so even if you miss the sign you won't have trouble finding the place. After parking, Pat and I walked into the bar and grabbed a couple of stools and ordered a beer. Our eyes lit up When I saw the frosty mugs come out of the freezer. There is nothing like tap beer in a ice cold frosty mug. Becker and Tom own the Bergland Bay Bar and happen to be two of the friendliest bartenders in the U.P. How they ended up buying the bar is a story in itself and if you go to the Bergland Bay Bar website, you can read a little about it. On Tom's recommendation, we ordered up one of his tavern pizzas. As frozen pizzas go, both my wife and agreed that it was one of the best tavern pizza's I've eaten. It's turns out its made by Shirks Pizza out of Minnesota. I liked it so much I emailed them to tell them I enjoyed their pizza. So if you run into a bar that offers a Shirks Pizza, you just might want to give it a try. Let me give you a little advice about staying above a bar. The cool thing is when its time to call it a night, you can just walk out the door, up the stairs and crash. However, if you leave before the bar closes, the rockin' sound of the juke box rattling the windows might tend to keep you awake. Thanks Becker & Tom. We had a great time. Page 1 of 4
